PostgreSQL 17 is the 2024 major line of the open-source object-relational database system, distributed with its server and a broad suite of interactive, administrative, backup, replication, and development tools.
Historique du projet
PostgreSQL descends from the POSTGRES project begun at the University of California, Berkeley in 1986 under Michael Stonebraker. Andrew Yu and Jolly Chen added an SQL interpreter in 1994 and released the result as Postgres95; the community adopted the PostgreSQL name in 1996 to reflect both the POSTGRES lineage and SQL support.
PostgreSQL 17 introduced a new memory-management system for `VACUUM`, expanded SQL/JSON support with `JSON_TABLE`, improved high-concurrency and sequential-read performance, enhanced logical replication and upgrade continuity, and added incremental backup support to `pg_basebackup`.
