Proton announced Proton Pass CLI on November 25, 2025 as a terminal interface for retrieving and managing vaults, items, secrets, and permissions. Development then broadened the developer workflow with Personal Access Tokens, SSH-agent capabilities, improved session management, and additional automation features.

Proton launched the CLI in response to requests for terminal access to Proton Pass data, targeting development, scripting, servers, containers, deployments, and CI/CD. Official installation support and later Homebrew packaging brought it into conventional developer package workflows.

Authenticate with `pass-cli login`, then list and manage vaults and items or reference fields with `pass://vault/item/field`. The CLI can inject secrets into environments and templates, operate in headless automation, and expose vault-stored SSH keys through its SSH-agent workflow.
