overview
Parallel versions of OpenSSH and related tools
history
PSSH, or Parallel SSH, is a suite for running SSH-based commands and file operations concurrently across multiple hosts.
PSSH originated as a Python collection of parallel versions of OpenSSH tools. The official README credits Brent N. Chun as the original author and maintainer and records that maintenance passed to Andrew McNabb in October 2009.
After the original Google Code site closed, lilydjwg exported the project to GitHub and maintained a Python 3-compatible fork. The suite retains pssh, pscp, prsync, pnuke, and pslurp, along with the reusable psshlib library.
PSSH became a lightweight option for administrators needing fan-out execution without a full configuration-management platform. The supplied package metadata records packaging across Homebrew, Debian and Ubuntu, Fedora, Alpine Linux, MacPorts, Nix, and openSUSE.
Administrators provide hosts directly or through a host file, choose concurrency and timeout settings, and execute one command across the group. Separate commands handle parallel copying, rsync-style synchronization, process termination, and retrieval of remote files.
PSSH delegates SSH behavior through command-line options and the underlying SSH tooling; its documentation does not define a dedicated persistent configuration or credentials file.
PSSH occupies the practical space between a shell loop and a fleet-management system. Its suite parallelizes familiar SSH and file-transfer operations without requiring an agent on remote hosts.
