overview
Terminal slideshow tool
history
presenterm is a Rust-based terminal slideshow application that renders presentations written in Markdown. It supports themes, terminal images and animation, code highlighting and execution, diagrams, mathematical rendering, speaker notes, hot reload, and PDF or HTML export.
presenterm's changelog begins with the 0.1.0 release in October 2023, providing Markdown slides, terminal image protocols, themes, syntax highlighting, pauses, and automatic reload.
Subsequent releases quickly added columns, PDF export, dynamic code highlighting, LaTeX and Typst rendering, configuration files, custom key bindings, Windows image support, Mermaid rendering, executable snippets, and broader export support. The documentation later moved into a dedicated mdBook-style site.
The project expanded from its initial Cargo-oriented release to community packaging across Homebrew, Nix, Arch Linux, Scoop, WinGet, MacPorts, Alpine, and openSUSE, as reflected in official installation documentation and the supplied package-manager facts. Its terminal-native format has also accumulated support for multiple graphics protocols and terminal families.
Authors write one or more Markdown files, separate slides with presenterm commands or configured shorthand, and run `presenterm file.md`. Development mode reloads changed slides automatically; presentation mode, custom themes, speaker notes, executable snippets, and export commands support delivery and publishing.
presenterm turns plain Markdown into a capable terminal-native presentation format without requiring a browser or desktop slide suite. It is especially appealing for developer talks and live demonstrations because it combines hot reload, syntax highlighting, executable snippets, terminal graphics, diagrams, formulas, speaker notes, and export in one CLI workflow.
