Developer Ryan Challinor began building Bespoke Synth for personal use in 2011 and later released it publicly as free software.

The project reached a 1.0 release and continued through the 1.1 and 1.2 series. Version 1.3.0 was released on 22 December 2024, adding new sequencing, routing, MIDI, preset, and workflow capabilities.

Development continues publicly under GPLv3 with nightly builds generated from current commits and community contributions merged into the main project.
