PPSSPP is a free, cross-platform emulator for games and homebrew originally made for the Sony PlayStation Portable.

Henrik Rydgård founded PPSSPP as a free and open-source emulator for Sony's PlayStation Portable. The source and ppsspp.org were publicly launched on 1 November 2012, followed by frequent early releases and rapid ports to additional systems.

The project reached its 1.x series in 2015 and continued improving CPU and GPU emulation, game compatibility, rendering backends, input, networking, save states, and debugging facilities. Its long-lived cross-platform codebase supports both native applications and frontend-oriented builds.

採用の歴史

PPSSPP expanded quickly from early Windows and Android builds into a cross-platform emulator for Linux, macOS, iOS, and other systems. The official documentation now describes conventional packages or installers for the major desktop and mobile platforms.

Distribution through mobile stores became especially important. Android releases were available early in the project's life, while Apple's 2024 policy change allowed an official PPSSPP release on the iOS App Store after years of unofficial builds.

Users open legally obtained PSP game images or homebrew and configure controls, rendering, audio, networking, and per-game overrides through the emulator interface. PPSSPP emulates the PSP Memory Stick directory structure for saved data and installed content.

On macOS and conventional Linux layouts, user data resides beneath ~/.config/ppsspp; the main settings file is PSP/SYSTEM/ppsspp.ini inside that directory. The interface can reveal the active Memory Stick folder when platform storage rules differ.

PPSSPP does not supply commercial games. Users must obtain software lawfully, such as by transferring their own PSP media or using freely distributed homebrew.
