Nguyễn Thái Ngọc Duy, known as icy, created pacapt as a small shell wrapper that translates Arch Linux pacman-style operations into commands for many native package managers.

The project grew into a portable script with numerous backends and optional helper links such as pacman, allowing the same interface to be used across several Unix-like operating-system families.
