Pylint is a mature, highly configurable static analyzer and linter for Python.

Pylint originated at Logilab in the early 2000s and is now maintained by the Pylint contributor community. Its documentation credits Logilab and contributors from 2003 onward.

The project grew from a conventional Python linter into an extensible static-analysis suite that checks errors, conventions, code smells, and refactoring opportunities without executing the analyzed program.
