Duo Labs created Parliament because it wanted the IAM policy-review functionality available in the AWS web console as a reusable library, while adding checks of its own.

The project grew beyond basic JSON and IAM action validation through configurable severities, ignored findings, community auditors, and private custom auditors.

Historique d'adoption

Parliament's official README identifies CloudMapper, tf-parliament, iam-lint, Paco, ConsoleMe, and iamlive as projects that use or integrate the library.

Homebrew distribution gives the Python-based linter a standalone command-line installation path in addition to its library-oriented Python packaging.

Modes d'utilisation

Users can lint a policy file, directory, JSON string, AWS managed-policy collection, or account-authorization-details export.

Library consumers call Parliament's analysis functions and inspect returned findings, while CLI users can produce human-readable or JSON output and use the process exit status in automation.

The documented optional override file is supplied with --config and is commonly named config_override.yaml; it changes finding severity, descriptions, and ignore rules. No credentials file is required for ordinary local policy analysis.
