Projektgeschichte

LEGO launched MINDSTORMS EV3 in 2013 as the third generation of its programmable robotics platform, centered on the EV3 Intelligent Brick, motors, and sensors.

LEGO Education announced EV3 Classroom as the replacement for EV3 Lab and the earlier EV3 Programming app after macOS Catalina compatibility problems. The Scratch-based macOS application launched in November 2019, with other platforms following in 2020.

LEGO Education subsequently retired EV3. The official download page continues to provide EV3 Classroom for existing users while explicitly ending maintenance, updates, fixes, security patches, and technical support.

Adoptionsgeschichte

EV3 became a widely packaged educational robotics environment spanning classroom computers, tablets, and programmable bricks. EV3 Classroom provided a consistent Scratch-based experience across macOS and later Windows, Chrome, Android, and iOS.

LEGO Education has retired the EV3 product line and now distributes EV3 Classroom as unsupported, as-is software. Existing schools and hobbyists can continue using it, but no maintenance, security fixes, or technical support are promised.

Use EV3 Classroom's block-based environment to create programs and transfer them to an EV3 Brick used with the Education EV3 Core Set.

The application does not require an account or login. Official privacy documentation states that written and coded material is stored locally on the device rather than uploaded to LEGO Education.

Existing users should account for the software's retired status and keep recoverable copies of projects and compatible installers or environments.
