PJSIP development began before its first public release, which appeared in February 2005 as version 0.2. Even that small early release could establish a voice call and ran on Windows and Linux.
The project subsequently developed a layered architecture covering SIP, SDP, RTP, media, STUN, TURN, and ICE. High-level PJSUA-LIB and PJSUA2 APIs made the lower-level components more accessible to application developers, while mobile support incorporated native multimedia facilities.
