Percona Server for MySQL is Percona's enhanced, open-source, drop-in-compatible distribution of MySQL Server, aimed at production workloads needing additional performance, scalability, instrumentation, and operational features.

Projektgeschichte

Percona was founded in 2006 by Peter Zaitsev and Vadim Tkachenko around MySQL support and performance work. The company's official timeline records Percona MySQL and the XtraDB storage engine in 2008 and the launch of Percona Server for MySQL in 2010.

The server evolved as a MySQL-compatible distribution with additional performance, scalability, observability, backup, authentication, encryption, and operational features. The unversioned package follows the current 8.4 LTS documentation line.

Percona states that thousands of enterprises use Percona Server for MySQL for demanding workloads. Its drop-in compatibility with MySQL and availability through Percona repositories and third-party package managers provide a relatively direct adoption path for existing MySQL operators.
