overview
Fast type checker and IDE for Python
history
Pyrefly is Meta's high-performance static type checker and language server for Python, implemented in Rust for command-line and IDE workflows.
Meta announced Pyrefly publicly as an open-source alpha in May 2025 after developing a new checker around performance, IDE-first behavior, and extensibility. A beta followed in November 2025, and the project declared its stable 1.0 release in May 2026.
Meta developed Pyrefly for large Python codebases and made it the default type checker for Instagram's Python codebase. Official project materials also report adoption by large open-source projects including PyTorch and JAX.
Users run `pyrefly init` to create or update project configuration and `pyrefly check` locally or in CI. The same analysis engine supports editor diagnostics and language features; migration commands can translate nearby mypy or Pyright settings.
Pyrefly is part of a newer generation of high-performance Python type checkers implemented in Rust. It combines a CLI checker and language server, supports migration from mypy and Pyright configurations, and is packaged across Homebrew, Nix, Scoop, and WinGet.
security posture
No matching local secret-handling manifest was found for pyrefly. Package metadata is still published here so future coverage has a stable package URL.
Before unattended agent use, check whether the tool reads plaintext credentials, writes remote state, publishes artifacts, or shells out to plugins.
local files
These source-backed paths show where this package keeps local settings or durable credentials. Automic Vault can use them as review targets for secret scanning, migration, and command approval.
Config paths the tool may read or write during local use.
