项目历史

MaxMind introduced libmaxminddb as the native C implementation for reading MaxMind DB files. The repository describes the format as a custom binary format for fast IP-address lookups with flexible associated data, and links to the public MaxMind DB specification.

The MaxMind DB specification documents a binary search tree, data section, and metadata area. That format became the foundation for MaxMind's newer GeoIP database distribution and replaced older GeoIP Legacy database handling in many downstream systems.
