## Historique du projet et usages

MemcacheQ is a simple queue service that exposes queue operations through the memcache protocol. Producers append with `set`, consumers read with `get`, and queue storage is backed by Berkeley DB.

### Historique du projet

The upstream README presents MemcacheQ as a very small, fast, multiple-queue service compatible with memcache clients. Its design goal was pragmatic compatibility: existing memcache client libraries could enqueue and dequeue messages by talking to a queue server on the memcache protocol.

The ChangeLog shows v0.0.1 in March 2008, a rewrite around newer MemcacheDB code with multiple-queue support in September 2008, v0.2.0 in December 2009, and a cleanup v0.2.1 release in December 2014. The README was last updated by Steve Chu on 2009-12-09.

### Historique d'adoption

MemcacheQ appears as a niche infrastructure package rather than a broad platform. The batch input lists Homebrew and MacPorts package names, while the upstream README sends users to the MemcacheDB mailing list and old Google Code download/install locations.

### Modes d'utilisation

The documented interface uses only two basic commands: `set <queue name> ...` appends a message to the tail of a queue, and `get <queue name>` consumes a message from the head. `stats queue` reports queue sizes, and `delete <queue>` removes a queue.

Deployment requires Berkeley DB 4.7 or later and libevent 1.4.x or later. The INSTALL file shows a daemon example using `memcacheq -d -r -H /data1/memcacheq -N -R -v -L 1024 -B 1024`, and notes that `-B` controls maximum message length because fixed-length Berkeley DB queue storage pads shorter messages.

### Pourquoi les passionnés de paquets s'y intéressent

MemcacheQ matters historically because it is one of the small services that reused the memcached protocol as an application integration surface. For package collections, it is a compact C daemon with classic Unix dependencies and a clear relationship to memcached-era infrastructure patterns.

### Chronologie

- 2008-03-15: v0.0.1 released.
- 2008-09-19: v0.1.0 released after a rewrite based on newer MemcacheDB code.
- 2009-12-09: v0.2.0 released with rewritten multiple-queue map code and instant per-queue statistics.
- 2014-12-17: v0.2.1 cleanup release published on GitHub.

### Related projects

- MemcacheQ is related to memcached through protocol compatibility, to MemcacheDB through its code history and mailing-list community, and to Berkeley DB and libevent as runtime/build dependencies.
