The project is maintained as a daemon, lldpd, plus command-line clients such as lldpcli and lldpctl. The upstream README describes support for receiving and sending LLDP frames, an SNMP subagent for net-snmp, partial LLDP-MED support, and operation on FreeBSD, GNU/Linux, macOS, NetBSD, OpenBSD, and Solaris.

The public GitHub release history includes lldpd 0.7.8 on May 28, 2014 and the NEWS file records the 1.0.0 series before later 1.0.x maintenance releases. Later entries show steady maintenance around network interface handling, security hardening, protocol parsing, and platform support.
